The Inner Development Goals

An introduction into the foundational skills that support sustainable development

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have provided us with a strong and measurable vision to create a better future, however we humans struggle to deal with the complexity, uncertainty and scale of the challenges facing us. Some researchers believe that it is not climate change or sustainability that are our greatest threats, but how and if we will respond to the threats in an appropriate and timely way.

Making change happen therefore means that we humans need new inner skills and capabilities to help us create hopeful, sustainable futures.

The IDGs, or Inner Development Goals, is a framework of transformative capabilities, qualities and skills, which give us a roadmap for not only what we need to do to achieve meaningful and sustainable change, but who we need to be on that path.

  • In this workshop, we’ll explore what the IDGs are in more depth. We’ll look at:
  • What the IDGS are and where they came from
  • Five critical dimensions and 23 science-based skills and/or qualities from Relationship to Self to Caring for Others and the World
  • How the IDGs link to the SDGs
  • Why the IDGs can be useful in your work as a change maker
  • How to build your own skills and learn more

This introductory workshop is designed to give you an overview of what’s possible.

We offer regular monthly IDG encounter sessions that focus on different aspects of the framework, as well as a more in-depth course to help you learn about and build each skill in yourself. For more information, get in touch.
