Interactive Climate Fresk Workshops

Want to help tackle climate change but don’t have the time to become a climate scientist?

In just 3 hours, the collaborative Climate Fresk workshop will teach you the fundamental science behind climate change and empower you to take action.

Our “head, heart, hands” approach means that we focus on knowledge, emotions, and practical steps, which leads to “ah hah” moments and positive change.

We offer our standard workshop for individuals, and can also be tailored the workshop for groups, organisations, and regional partners.

What is this workshop about?

The Climate Fresk workshop is all about boosting understanding of climate change and using that to prompt discussion and action through an interactive 3.5-hour workshop with our trained facilitators. After all, it’s difficult to solve a problem if you don’t understand it, and let’s be honest: the science of climate change can be complex and challenging for a variety of reasons!

The card game was developed by Cédric Ringenbach  in 2018 and is based on information taken from the latest IPCC assessment report. Interactive, thought-provoking and inspiring, this workshops  allows you to learn the drivers, mechanisms and consequences of climate change

Course structure

This workshop has three distinct parts.

1. The Climate Fresk Card Game:

Working in a small group, you will play an interactive card game to bring the story of climate change to life.

In this part of the workshop, you will:

  • Get a systems perspective of the problem
  • Understand the IPCC science without having to read the 3600-page report
  • Learn something new, no prior knowledge is required

2. The Debrief:

You will have a chance to reflect on what you’ve learned – it’s a lot of information and it’s important that everyone has time to process it!

In this part of the workshop, you will:

  • Have a chance to react to what you’ve learnt in a small group
  • Review the picture of climate change that you have uncovered and use your creativity to highlight links and sum up the game
  • Acknowledge how the story of climate change makes you feel, and then use that to motivate you to take a stand!

3. The Brainstorm:

Now that you have a clearer picture of climate change and you’ve had time to make links and understand how the problem relates to you, you’ll have a chance to think about what to do in the face of the challenge.

In this part of the workshop, you will:

  • Have an open conversation about positive climate solutions
  • Think about the feasibility and impact of actions and choices
  • Generate ideas for impactful changes in your life and your company/industry

Additional Modules:

If you wish to tailor the workshop, we can add additional modules, including:

  • Understanding the impact of policy decisions
  • Risk and opportunity planning
  • Strategic planning for sustainable futures

When one reads something about climate change in the media, it often only concerns one aspect of the problem and it is difficult to perceive its systemic aspect. With the Climate Fresk, one understands in record time that everything is connected. And that it is urgent to take action!

I was skeptical about attending this workshop as the company I work for does a lot of “talking” and not much “doing” about sustainability. By working with colleagues, I learned a lot about what’s important to them as individuals, as well as what changes we need to make in different areas of the business. Most importantly, I became acutely aware of our we need to work together to make our organisation sustainable. Very good.
